about

Out on March 10, 2023, released on Liburia Records, "Liburia Trip" is the new album by Brigan, a trio of musicians from Campania active since 2009.
About five years after the release of the last album, the band returns with a work between World Music and electronics, placing itself not as a simple re-proposition of the tradition of soutern Caserta - the place where the three musicians were born and live - but as a creation in the present, of an imaginary world now lost, in which the chant, the drums, the flutes and the soundscape re-emerge reworked, stratified and fragmented with a new guise thanks to the use of electronics and new media.
The ten original tracks are the result of a shared creative process and of an intense research activity on the traditions of the territory and on the relationship between tradition and new technologies. The narrative framework that makes up "Liburia trip” hold on several themes related to the rural world of Terra Felix with a contemporary perspective and language; from the cultivation of hemp, to the Carnival's ritual of death and rebirth, passing through the devotional aspects of the Marian cult up to issues related to the environment.
The ostinato rhythmic aspect, which keeps intact the core of the Terra Felix tradition, creates a new pulsation by combining drums and electronics in a symbiotic way, a hybrid sound that is grafted onto synthetic textures, voices and field recordings. What emerges is a subtle work between form and deconstruction, in an articulated interweaving of relationships between past and present, among tradition and the need to create on its ashes.
Conceived and recorded in Sant'Arpino, near Caserta, the album highlights the voice, winds, bagpipes, accordion and plectrums of Francesco Di Cristofaro; electronics, piano, choirs and field recordings by Andrea Laudante; the percussions and electronic drums by Gabriele Tinto and the participation in the traditional percussions of southern Caserta by Luca de Simone.
The disc also boasts the participation of several guests including the Norwegian singer Torgir Vassvik, the voice of Cecchinella - one of the last exponents of the vocal tradition of southern Caserta - and the multi-instrumentalist Peppe Frana.
